Peacock Is Bringing Dakota Johnson’s Steamy Movie Trilogy Back Very Soon

Dakota Johnson‘s R-rated, NSFW trilogy of movies will soon become available on Peacock. These movies were quite controversial when they came out, but they were commercially successful.

The Fifty Shades trilogy is returning to Peacock soon

All three movies in the Fifty Shades trilogy are heading back to Peacock on August 1, 2026 (via TV Guide). The three films, Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed, were released in 2015, 2017, and 2018, respectively. They are adaptations of E. L. James’ books of the same name. Notably, they began as Twilight fan fiction before becoming original works of literature (via Business Insider).

The cast of the erotic drama trilogy includes Dakota Johnson as Anastasia “Ana” Steele, Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, Eloise Mumford as Katherine “Kate” Kavanagh, and Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan-Grey. The plot follows the evolving relationship between Christian, a billionaire entrepreneur, and Ana, who is an English Literature student at the start of the story. Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the first film, with James Foley replacing her on the next two projects.

Each of the three Fifty Shades movies has received poor reviews from critics. The first has a 25% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the second and third both have an 11% rating. Despite this, as mentioned above, these movies were commercially successful. Made on a $40 million production budget, Fifty Shades of Grey grossed over $569 million globally, whereas the remaining two films grossed around $381 million and $371 million, respectively.

Despite the criticism these movies have received, they remain popular due to their talented cast and provocative narratives. One of the very few positive reviews for the final movie came from Stephanie Archer of Film Inquiry, who wrote, “While nowhere near the best picture of 2018, Fifty Shades Freed does prove itself to be a tantalizing, sultry, and seductive conclusion to the saga of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.”
