Some new details about the upcoming The Conjuring prequel movie have been revealed.
The Conjuring: Last Rites was released in United States theaters this past September. The fourth film in the main Conjuring series, the horror flick proved to be a huge hit for Warner Bros. Pictures, as it has grossed nearly $500 million at the global box office.
Following the release of The Conjuring: Last Rites, it was reported that Warner Bros. Pictures was looking to make a Conjuring prequel movie. Then, earlier today, it was announced that Rodrigue Huart is in talks to direct the project.
What is the new update on The Conjuring prequel movie?
Thanks to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, we also now know that Last Rites writers Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg are working on the screenplay for the Conjuring prequel movie. Additionally, Sneider reports that the film will be produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, while Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Natalia Safran, and John Rickard serve as executive producers.
There was some uncertainty around whether or not Wan would be involved in the franchise’s future installments due to a pay dispute. While there are no details at this time regarding how a compromise was reached or if Wan got the amount he was asking for, Sneider writes that the Insidious director has “clearly reached a deal with New Line, where the Conjuring franchise has kept the lights on for the past 12 years.”
Plot details for the Conjuring prequel movie remain under wraps at this time. It seems unlikely that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles in the film, given that this is supposed to be a prequel movie. Whether or not Warner Bros. intends to recast the roles or if Madison Lawlor and Orion Smith, who played younger versions of Ed and Lorraine in Last Rites, will be brought back for the prequel remains to be seen.
The Conjuring prequel movie does not yet have a release date.
