Lexi Jones, the late David Bowie’s daughter with supermodel Iman, quietly released her debut album, Xandri, earlier this month. Now, the 24-year-old artist has shared a poem about the weight of expectations cast in the long shadow of her iconic father.
“I’m the daughter of a legend/ But I’m more than just his name,” Jones writes. “They see the blood, they hear the sound/ Yet fail to see me, don’t feel the same.”
She continues, “They compare me to his heights/ Like I’m supposed to reach his light/ But I’m not here to chase what’s already been done/ By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.”

“I’m not a copy, not a shadow,” Jones adds. “I’m creating my own rhythm/ Letting my true self show/ But nobody knows how it may feel/ To be constantly despaired/ Then finally just saying, ‘Fuck it’/ Then being all around compared.”
“I’ll keep moving, keep doing me/ Even when the world is hard to please,” the poem concludes. “I’m not trying to fill his shoes/ I’m just trying to find my own peace.”
Jones performed, wrote, and produced every song on Xandri, which she released independently. The 12-track project blends elements of alternative rock, folk, and piano pop, with ethereal vocals floating over the top, serving as a promising debut even without knowing her pedigree.

Also a visual artist, Jones has freely expressed her love for her father on social media. In 2023, she shared a video of the two of them playing the keyboard together to mark the 7th anniversary of his death. More recently, she shared a childhood photo of herself with her father and the caption, “Papa.”
More than nine years after his death in January 2016, Bowie’s legacy remains alive through posthumous releases like a Ziggy Stardust era box set titled Rock ‘n’ Roll Star! (get your copy here).
