Interview with Liza Snow, Author of Obedience

master mentalism tricks

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Obedience?

I was at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida and I met a silk aerialist named Cassandra, who told me “you should write a book about a silk aerialist and name her after me.”

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Obedience: Book One in the Ties That Bind Series, what would they be?

My narrators picked these actually! Chandler: “Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC

Cassandra: “Rewrite the Stars” from Greatest Showman

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Science Fiction/Fantasy and Romance! So, partially yes. Haha.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Oh man, I have one my editor recommended I need to read and besides that, my head is in the game doing rewrites for my second book! Lol.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

For Obedience, that’s a hard question… I loved so many scenes. I think the scene where Chandler takes Cassandra back to his condo for the first time to practice Shibari on her, but he’s like “this is only a demonstration, it’s just art, it’s not a prelude to something else…” and then the entire time is fighting his feelings. I loved seeing him slowly unravel the entire book, it was amazing. I also loved Chapter 18, when he finally gives into the girl! And for the audiobook, Chapter 29, the Cirque du Lys show!

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I must ALWAYS have a cup of coffee (my narrator Daniel made me my favorite mug now, it’s adorable and says “Just a girl who likes Shibari.” Lol. I was so surprised when I got it. It’s my lucky mug now. And I have to have ambient music on, and I get up at 4am and go for a little drive first before I get started.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

It’s a series!! Don’t panic!! Haha.
