Francesca Beghe returns with her own version of “Trust In Me,” a song Beghe cowrote over 30 years ago. “Trust In Me” appeared on the Grammy award winning soundtrack for The Bodyguard. “Trust In Me” was recorded and performed by Joe Cocker and Sass Jordan for the soundtrack. Kevin Costner (star of The Bodyguard) had heard “Trust In Me” on Cocker’s 1987 album Unchain My Heart and chose it for the soundtrack. Beghe returned to the stage to perform with a full band for the first time in over 20 years in late 2019 and early 2020. “Trust In Me” is lead single off of her upcoming live album, Francesca Beghe Live.
Beghe got her start in the Manhattan club scene in the 80’s where she spent a decade establishing herself as a talented singer/songwriter. Beghe announced her solo career by releasing an early version of “Trust In Me” that earned her a record deal. It was only a matter of time before Beghe would perform her own version of the song again and it happens to coincide with the 30th anniversary of The Bodyguard soundtrack and movie. Beghe’s version has influences of Blues and Rock but manages to become an entity of its own because of Beghe’s distinct and powerful voice.
Beghe is joined by seven otherworldly musicians, who also happen to be friends of Beghe’s. This talent mixed with friendship and familiarity of the material is what makes “Trust In Me” so wonderfully addicting. I could not stop hitting replay, I kept being swept away in a movie of my minds making. Beghe’s vocal range is magnificently soulful and evocative, every time Beghe hits a note you feel it. There is no question that Beghe and her band are masterful musicians, “Trust In Me” makes you feel like you’re in the room with them. Francesca Beghe Live is 14 tracks of original songs and choice covers that I cannot wait to experience.
There is an undeniable richness to live albums, that you can’t find on anything that’s been recorded in a studio. You can feel the energy of the room, the emotions are closer to the surface, and Beghe can take artistic liberties if the spirit moves her. Delight is imbued throughout “Trust In Me” along with a palpable talent and power that comes through like another member of the band. Beghe doesn’t hold back vocally, she really belts during the chorus which is what makes “Trust In Me” so upbeat yet guttural.
It’s hard to believe that Francesca Beghe took more than a decade long absence from performing live, it is truly like she never stopped. Beghe is not someone who will ever be forgotten, her songwriting is timeless and when her onstage presence commands the room. If you’re in the mood to dance or to smile from ear to ear listen to “Trust In Me” you will not regret it. Beghe celebrates “Trust In Me” while making it her own on Francesca Beghe Live. Luckily listeners won’t have to wait 30 years for Beghe’s version any longer, “Trust In Me” drops on March 4th! Chec
