“The complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us.”

Say goodbye to Ultimate Gray and Illuminating! Very Peri has officially been announced as the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2022. In a press release published on Thursday, Pantone said of their new favourite hue:

“Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.”

The choice came as no surprise, especially following the pervasive use of lilacs and lavenders on the Fall/Winter 2021 runways. The rising popularity of gaming, virtual reality and digital art also informed the selection process, as our physical and digital worlds have become more and more inseparable. We saw the whimsical blue-leaning purple on the Spring 2022 runways, including Richard Quinn, Marques’ Almeida, and Bevza. Meanwhile in beauty, Veri Peri makes a statement by combining elegance with a cool-girl attitude, whether in the form of shimmery eyeshadow, daring hair colour or vibrant nail polish. On the KNWLS Spring 2022 runway, the models sported purple graphic eyeliners along with matching contact lens.
